U4GM Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred Summoner Tips

Diablo IV's Lord of Hatred expansion comes in with the sort of shake-up players usually hope for, then argue about for weeks. It's not just a fresh zone and a few flashy rewards. The whole pace feels meaner, cleaner, and a bit more dangerous. Neyrelle's struggle with Mephisto gives the campaign a sharper edge, but the bigger surprise is how much better the game feels between story beats. Combat has more snap. Progression makes more sense. Even sorting through Diablo 4 Items feels less like homework now, which is something a lot of us have wanted since launch.

Necromancer finally gets its army

The class changes are hard to ignore, especially if you've ever tried to make a real minion Necromancer work in the old endgame. Before, skeletons often felt like decoration once enemies started hitting properly. Now they hold the line. They kill things. They actually look like the centre of the build instead of a side effect. That matters. A good summoner build should let you play like a commander, not like a babysitter chasing after broken pets. With stronger minion scaling and better shadow-based support, the Necromancer has gone from “fun but awkward” to one of the easiest classes to recommend.

Loot feels less like a second job

The loot rework might be the most important change for day-to-day play. Diablo is always about chasing gear, sure, but nobody wants to stop every two minutes just to compare six nearly identical pairs of gloves. The new item flow cuts down the noise. You still get choices, but fewer drops feel completely pointless. Legendary powers land with more purpose, and stats seem better tied to the way people actually build characters. That makes experimenting less painful. If you want to try a strange shadow setup, a pet-heavy approach, or something halfway between the two, the game gives you more room to mess around without feeling punished.

Why Shadow Minion is the easy first pick

If you're coming back after a break, Shadow Minion Necromancer is a smart place to start. It doesn't need perfect gear to feel good, and it doesn't ask you to play like a piano. Decompose keeps Essence moving, Blight helps control packs, and Shadow Corpse Explosion turns the floor into a problem for anything standing on it. Once enemies begin dropping, the build starts feeding itself. Corpses become damage, damage makes more corpses, and suddenly the screen is empty. It's simple in the best way. You're still making choices, but you're not fighting the build just to enjoy the expansion.

What to chase as you push deeper

Early on, don't get trapped trying to build the perfect character from level one. Take gear that improves minions, shadow damage, survivability, or corpse skills, then keep moving. You'll replace plenty of pieces anyway. As the difficulty climbs, start paying closer attention to cooldowns, resistances, and bonuses that help your army stay active in longer fights. The new systems make that hunt smoother, and checking resources such as Diablo 4 Items (season 12) can help you understand which gear pieces are worth chasing before you waste hours on the wrong upgrades. Sanctuary is nastier now, but it's also much more fun to tear apart.
